Home is a place of peace and comfort. The safe space you long to return to and are happy to be in.
One of the best skills of a homemaker is of course: making a place feel like home! Regardless of the size or budget.
Want help to develop this skill? Rest assured, I’ve got it covered here.
This post is about adding a homemaker’s touch to make a house into a beautiful home.
Keep the Home Clean
Organising your time and implementing simple daily habits to maintain a clean home can make a great difference.
Even if your house is small with simple things, you will make it beautiful by keeping it consistently clean and organised. The opposite is also true. Regardless of expensive pieces and stunning decor; a home that’s unclean and cluttered won’t be a space you’re happy to be in and welcome guests.
Minimal Clutter
Think of each item in your home as a job.
Plenty of items = a whole lot of jobs!
Regularly decluttering and assessing the use and functionality of items in your home is a game changer. Be sure to also keep surfaces as clean and minimal as possible to reduce visual clutter.
Work with What You Have
You’d be surprised at how much nicer your home can look by simply rotating items that you already have. Try shifting things around to test where they best fit.
If you’re ambitious you can do this with bigger pieces such as furniture. But I’d suggest going with smaller items like vases, baskets or lamps initially.
Focus on Quality
Now, I’m a firm believer that you do not need a lot of money to achieve a beautiful home.
However, acquiring a few high quality items will actually save you some money (and hassle) in the long run. These are things you use on a daily basis such as rugs, towels and bedding.
They’ll look and feel better, and will be much more durable.
Go Thrifting
Obtaining quality items doesn’t have to mean spending a ton of money. Buying secondhand is not only cost effective, but you can also find some beautiful, unique pieces in excellent condition.
Add some Greenery
Plants, flower bouquets, wildflowers, branches. Whichever you choose, bringing in some greenery is one of the simplest ways to brighten up any room.
Certain plants can also help purify the air, so that’s definitely a plus.
Personal Touch
Displaying items that are personal and unique to your family is a way to make your place feel cosy and welcoming.
Functional Decor
Functional decor bridges the gap between beauty and functionality.
Choose beautiful pieces that also serve a purpose such as
a “catch all” dish and so on.
A Pleasant Scent
Though I do enjoy lighting a candle or diffusing some essential oils from time to time this doesn’t need to be a daily occurrence.
You can do a few basic things to keep your home smelling fresh and avoid unwanted odours. Such as opening the windows daily, making sure textiles (towels, throw blankets etc) are freshly laundered, dusting and vacuuming regularly.
A Happy Home is a Beautiful Home
Fundamentally the most beautiful home is a happy one. And the only way to attain true happiness is through nearness to our Lord.
It’s essential for a home to be centred around the worship of Allah. And be a place where everyone tries their best to adhere to the Quran and Sunnah. Smiling and speaking kindly with one another.
As a result this will allow you to truly cultivate a peaceful home.
